I guess they updated how it works

I fell asleep while reading and apparently if you’re woken up in a dream, you wake up in real life now. Awesome. Also, I don’t know when this turned into a blog of my life and no longer just weird photos I find throughout the day. I hope you don’t mind.

I also got an FTD.com email alert reminding me to send flowers to a girl I stopped seeing six years ago. Very odd since I don’t remember getting the alerts in the past, but that ended now. Secondary mission: what happened in April 2003 that I sent flowers for!?

Now I’m going to bed for real after watching a bit of Touchez pas au grisbi. I recommend just about any movie with Jean Gabin as the lead.

But I won’t sit idly by
(Ahhh…)
I’m planning a big surprise
I’m gonna fight
For what I want to be
Fugazi - Waiting Room, also a mantra of sorts as I’m more and more convinced of my need to pay off all debts and move to a less frustrating land as fast as I can. (via doug)

The Tragically Hip - “The Last Recluse”

If you don’t see lyrics here, visit http://i40.tinypic.com/33estxe.jpg for the song lyrics.

It was said by Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip in an old interview which I haven’t been able to find for years that there are two kinds of albums, “brood and bloom.” Their new album came out today, and while I’m happy I paid for it, it’s definitely a brood album. Not Day For Night dark, but this will never be mistaken for a happy album. I’ve listened through it a couple times, and I only hear a couple singles, which is fine by me.

This is an early runner-up for my favorite track on the album. The verse starting with “You rode out of view” is my favorite part of the song, but only because I figure we’ve all got some story like that.

My favorite so far is “Love is a First” but I’ll post that tomorrow if I can remember.

by Camil TulcanI think I want to try this, but a) in the summer and b) blast the sun as either the real background or the mirror foreground.
Additional thought: Perhaps take the photo of the bg first, have the subject walk into the fore with the mirror, then remove the centre of the mirror in post-process exposing the previously-shot background creating an “invisible” head effect.
You’re welcome.

It’s never going to be over, so stop waiting for the good stuff. As of now, spend a minimum of one hour a day doing whatever you are waiting to do until your finances are more secure, or until the children have grown and left home, or until you have finished your obligations and you feel free to do what you really want to do. Don’t wait any longer. Don’t believe in the myth of “one day when everything will be different.” Do what you love to do, what you are waiting to do, what you’ve been born to do, now.

Spend at least one hour a day doing whatever you simply love to do — what you deeply feel you need to do, in your heart — in spite of the daily duties that seem to constrain you. However, be forewarned: you may discover that you don’t, or can’t, do it; that in fact, your fantasy of your future life is simply a fantasty.

David Deida, from The Way of the Superior Man. You can laugh at the title but the book is phenomenal. (via jakelodwick)

Yes! I keep trying to explain this to people, but all I ever hear is “later” or “some day.” Work is the worst for it for all the “In the future we should look into”s (via doug)

The Tragically Hip - “Love is a First” (3:43)

“I’ve been interpreted and shrunk / I’ve been as touchless as a drunk”

This is the song I like most from the new album, largely because it’s (sort of secretly) a large collection non-sequitors that have popped up in various Hip live shows and years of touring.

Also, there’s a pretty badass bass line running throughout the whole song.

I’ll get back to more unusual or interesting items shortly.

“Fuckin’ shit loads of macaroni and cheeses, baked potatoes, collard greens, a horse, fuckin’ Puerto Rican chicks showing their pussies and tits off everywhere.”

If you haven’t been a fan of Eastbound And Down, I’m telling you now to get on it like Kenny on that glorious leopard-print Sea-Doo. The language is always at the level of the video above, or better. We’re adults, so we can use adult talk!

I really enjoy the fact that Danny McBride, as an actor, has a character that is so equally loved in his failed state as a human being that the character’s catch-phrasing could become everyday memes.
